My van has barn doors and when it rains the inside side panels get wet from about where the lower hinge is to the floor of the van. I've vaselined around the door seal but someone said that the rubber should contact the metal door when closed. The doors have been covered in carpet fabric so the rubber door seal is butting up against this, not the metal. Should I take a stanley knife to the fabric and cut it back? Alternatively, would an "up and over" type door fit my van? Please help as I don't want to sleep in a wet bed this summer

Hi Loopy, Yeah not a massive problem but bleeding annoying. It is exactly what you mentioned, the rubber seal needs to be snug against the metal surface it closes against. As long the interior material isn't in between the metal and the rubber there doesn't seem to be any need to cut it up, just make sure there aren't gaps. I'm not 100% sure that the Vasaline will help a great deal, have you tried Marmite?
