Hi All. New member. Have started restoring my fathers '69 Type II Bay window kombi. Fair to say I am trying to learn as I go. Currently having difficulty with dropping the motor - in particular the bolt near the top of the motor (right hand side when lying on florr looking up). It is proving difficult to access. Any ideas would be great! There will be plenty more queries in the future too!

Hi The one above the starter motor. It should be a special bolt with an end that locks on the starter motor. You can undo it with a 17 mm spanner behind the fan housing. If the bolt has been replaced at some point with a normal hex then you have to wedge a screwdriver between the bolt head and starter motor to lock it off and undo the nut behind the fan housing. The latter is a two man job. Hope this helps Paul

Thanks for that.
We’ve been able to locate the top bolts, but are having a heap of trouble accessing the bolt-head of the one on the gearbox side. Would it be typical to have to remove the heater box/exhaust (or any other components) to get better access to it?? We know the motor’s been pulled before, so in theory it shouldn’t be too difficult, but that one bolt is proving a nightmare.

I use a socket with a wobble bar to get in around the back of the heat exchanger.
